Installation and updates
One command installs Salvo, and the same command updates it.
Requirements
- root access;
- an x86_64 server (other architectures are refused);
curl;- the download credentials, sent with the beta invitation.
Install
root@server
curl -fsSL -u USER:PASSWORD https://salvobackup.com/download/install.sh | sh -s -- -u USER:PASSWORD
The script:
- downloads the latest version and checks its sha256; if it does not match, nothing is installed;
- puts the
salvobinary in the state folder,/var/lib/salvo(use--state DIRonly for another folder); - detects the control panel and installs the screen:
| Panel | What is installed |
|---|---|
| cPanel | WHM › Plugins › Salvo Backup (root only) |
| DirectAdmin | the admin plugin and a local service on 127.0.0.1 |
| none | command line only |
It does not touch anything outside Salvo. The binary is not added to the PATH: call it as /var/lib/salvo/salvo.
Reinstall from scratch
--clean removes the installation that exists (the same as Remove Salvo, including the vault copy
kept in /root) and then installs:
root@server
curl -fsSL -u USER:PASSWORD https://salvobackup.com/download/install.sh | sh -s -- -u USER:PASSWORD --clean
Turn on the schedules
Salvo has no permanent service: scheduled backups run when cron calls schedule-run every minute (one runner at a
time; a missed time is caught up if it passed less than agenda_janela_horas ago, 12 hours by default).
/etc/cron.d/salvo-backup
* * * * * root /var/lib/salvo/salvo schedule-run --state /var/lib/salvo
Create it only when you decide to turn the schedules on (see First steps).
Update
Run the install command again, or, on the server:
root@server
# only shows if there is a new version
/var/lib/salvo/salvo self-update --check
# updates (sha256 checked, panel screen reinstalled)
/var/lib/salvo/salvo self-update
# the installed version
/var/lib/salvo/salvo version
Remove
See Remove Salvo.
